Introducing Online Counseling
What is Online Coaching/Counseling?
Online therapy is the delivery of mental health counseling via the Internet.
People also know it as e-therapy, distance therapy, Internet therapy and web therapy. Online Counselors use a variety of technology such as apps for texting, video chatting, Instant Messaging Chat, and email.
The use of technology to work with individuals who are needing to work through depression, anxiety, grief, chronic suicide ideation, emotional crisis, parenting challenges, relationship issues, and helping a family member or friend deal with a mental illness, awakened in my passion and vision in 2014.
We use the Internet to shop better, learn better, and work better; isn’t it time we start using the Internet to make mental and emotional health care more accessible?
I believe that human-to-human help cannot – and should not – be replaced by automated technology. Instead, we are leveraging new technologies to adapt traditional counseling into the lifestyle and expectations of today’s mental health consumers.
Here are some common reasons why people prefer online therapy:
- The commute can be inconvenient or impossible
- Some e-therapy providers do not require insurance
- People worry about the stigma of in-office therapy. Clients are concerned people they know will see them enter or leave a therapist’s office
- Clients are more comfortable and open while at home
- Chat or Instant Message-based therapy allows clients more time to structure their thoughts
- It is easier for clients to schedule, cancel, or reschedule because the time when the ECounselor is available is seen with the online calendar
- Some clients feel therapy via the Internet provides greater anonymity
- It benefits teens who cannot drive to a therapist’s office
- It is a convenient option for people with disabilities
- People in abusive relationship who want to receive therapy without their partner knowing

What is my Method of Counseling?
My work is done using Brief Short-Term Solution-Focused Counsel, with Psych-Educational Coping Skills Development, via Online Chat.
Most mental health professionals and their clients work towards change, but knowing how to facilitate change is often the dilemma. “Even if it is obvious what I believe those who I help need to handle life better, the how-to’s often remain elusive. I love to provide you practical tools, using worksheets, useable solutions to help resolve the immediate issues you are facing.”
The field of mental health is no longer mainly focused on mental disorder and illness, mood issues and pathology, but rather on how to be and stay well – how to thrive and not just survive.
Especially with the emergence of positive psychology and increased research and attention to wellness, the focus on happiness and subjective well-being are central to the lives of many. Wellness in the workplace is also increasingly a focus for companies, wanting to keep their employees productive and happy.
As mental health practitioners, we have a responsibility to know and use resources for wellness. This focus has become more mainstream with the advent of the Positive Psychology movement, which dovetails very nicely with more traditional models of the counseling field, such a DBT, and CBT.
The focus on wellness is made much easier with the many resources available on the internet. Self-improvement and wellness have now intersected with mental health in a way like never before.
“I believe Therapists who offer practical worksheets and handouts offer clients a valuable opportunity to learn and practice the how-to’s for real change. A hands-on, proactive approach helps individuals develop new skills along with new insights, and worksheets and handouts provide invaluable skill-building opportunities.”
“It is my conviction that these skill building and informational materials lead to not only more rapid growth but also to more longstanding change as new skills replace older ones.”
“It is my passion to provide those I work with new life tools to manage life’s stresses and challenges can offer skills to last a lifetime.”
“I am concerned about your past, your former experiences, but with a solution-focused approach, we want to work with what you are facing now so you can move forward with emotional success, and coping skills and strategies that will help you have answers and solutions the next time you face similar emotional issues.”
What differentiates therapists from good friends is the expertise, insight, and ability to provide psycho-educational resources to educate individuals to develop new strategies for thinking and behaving.
